5 Easy Tips to Clean Your Beauty Routine

5 Easy Tips to Clean Your Beauty Routine

So if you've been hanging out around SaltyGirl Beauty for the last couple of years, you'll know that we are big proponents of a clean lifestyle, especially when it comes to the products that we're putting on our skin.  Now that we've been doing the research on clean beauty for a few years now, we are confident in the daily decisions that we're making... but we know that when you're just starting out, it can be a bit overwhelming, right? We're here to help you decide to clean your beauty routine and then give you some pointers on easy ways to start. Here are five easy ways you can clean / green your beauty routine.

Start Small

Don't feel overwhelmed or like you have to throw everything in your bathroom cabinet into the trash. We recommend using up what you have and when you're ready to purchase a replacement, look for clean options. This can feel like a big undertaking but don't let it be. Take small, purposeful steps to improve the products you're putting on your skin.

Make Changes Gradually

This goes hand in hand with starting small. Find the products that you use the most, maybe your bar soap and your facial cleanser, and try a couple different options to see what will be a good fit in your beauty routine. We recommend swapping out your most used items, since these are the ones you're putting on your skin the most often. As an example, If you take your facial skincare routine seriously, then this would be a good place to make some of your first changes by finding a green cleanser and moisturizer. Once you start getting your footing, you can start branching out to deodorant, makeup and more.

Start Reading Labels

We have a cheat sheet of ingredients that you are going to want to avoid and the ones that will nourish your skin. We created this list so that you'd have a good jumping off point when you start paying attention to the ingredients on your products' labels. We know what it's like to look at long, confusing ingredients on beauty labels, so we want to help you cut out the bullshit and start recognizing what's good and what's not so good. Before you know it, you'll be a label reading expert and you can share the good word with those in your life.

Drink Your H2O

Is this a tip? Well it should be on the top of all of our lists on maintaining health and our beauty routine. Water makes everything better and we should all be drinking it all day long. If you're not drinking enough water, your skincare routine won't be optimized and your whole body is affected. Drinking at least 8 glasses a day will help rid the body and skin of toxins. Maybe some people will not agree that drinking water will improve skin but it certainly can't hurt and helps your health as a whole.

Find Brands You Can Trust

Once you've started researching brands and products, you'll find that you know who you can trust and who might be "greenwashing" a term used when some might be touting clean beauty, but might be including problematic ingredients. We want you to know that you can always ask us questions (email info@saltygirlbeauty) and we will help you navigate the clean beauty world. We aren't just trying to sell products, we're trying to make sure more and more people are cleaning up their beauty routine.
